Sexual Health is important issue that is needed to be discuss when dealing with sex toys and intimacy with sex. When looking into what kind of sex toys to purchase you need to investigate not only the style and the look but the material and the chemicals. To some people searching for sex toys will seem confusing extremely because there are so many styles and variations to choose from oh my word so many. Sex toys can be very pretty and look hot, but while your looking on the outside let me help you with what’s inside your toy’s material. Today we need to investigate the material and chemicals within the toys. Let’s start with the harmful materials first.
POROUS is full of tiny pores containing vessels and are being penetrated by bacteria, mold. No matter how many times you wash them what’s inside them will make a home in your toys and will never come out. In porous bacteria grows in the material because they can’t be properly sterilized. Personally, I wouldn’t never put this material in my body even with a condom. Even though you have cleaned it on the outside the inside is growing all types of unhealthy bacteria, mildew, fungus and germs which are being harbored and multiplying inside as your reading this blog. Now this sex toy is unhygienic and will be a danger to use in the future. If you continue to use this porous sex toy you will increase your chances of the risk of the following: infection, burning, blisters, skin lesions, bacterial infections, allergic reaction, reproductive system toxicity, irritation, diabetes, obesity, allergies, asthma, carcinogen exposure.
Porous is also blended elastomer material like stone dildos that are unpolished can be porous material also. You will never be able to see the pores with the naked eye but believe me there are plenty places for bacteria to get deep beneath the surface. Most sex toys made from this material are low cost and very cheap.
This is a sexual health issue which is a major risk because there is probably a bacterium build up every time you use your toy even though you have cleaned it repeatedly. The porous material can’t truly be scenario with sexual acts going on between the two of you, which raises the risk of your chances of STI transmission. And hours afterward of you cleaning the contaminated toy some of the HPV stays then travels deep inside the porous material now the next time your partner uses this same toy that bacteria is transferred to them during their use.
PHTHALATES is a chemical added to material to make it flexible, some squishy, sticky substance, some clear and pretty bright colors. Phthalates are vinyl, pvc, and jelly rubber like and labeled novelty use only for manufacturers to get around certain standards. These materials are used because they are cheap, affordable, feel realistic and very soft.
JELLY Toys are also made from these materials which are toxic and a very sexual health risk. When making jelly toys they use these materials and chemicals because they are easily manipulated, shaped, colored and formed so make sure you check the labels. Most jelly rubber contain phthalates so make sure you know what your getting. When storing your toys make sure to keep them apart so the chemicals don’t touch and possibly melt. If you just have to get these types of toys you should always use a condom, they are compatible with water based and silicone lube. The feel is smooth, rubbery and flexible. The smell has a strong rubbery smell and has a slight chemical taste. Jelly contain phthalates and has latex.
SILICONE is a non-toxic and bendy, squishy to firm also very realistic. Silicone is known to be non-porous, it to has pores but they are so micro small and can’t harbor bacteria, germs or fungus like other materials do. Silicone is more expensive, durable and not made with dangerous chemicals. Silicone is used in designer sex toys yes I said designer also for it nonporous finish and hypoallergenic properties. Most manufacturers are using silicone as it’s easy to clean, feels fantastic and lasts a long time. Silicone can firm, flexible, and or rigid they also last longer. Don’t use silicone lube with silicone toys because it will degrade your toys always use water base lubes only. The feel is smooth and sexy shapes the smell is odorless, tasteless and most important doesn’t contain phthalates and no latex. Silicone cleaning is simple. Hot water and mild soap and maybe a toothbrush to get areas you normally are able to get to. You can sterilize pure silicone, which is simple as well, you may boil or soak in 10% bleach solution for about 15 minutes before rising. Last check your toys before you buy them and read the fine print to make sure your silicone is only just silicone and not mixed with thermoplastic rubber TPR and elastomer. If it gas these properties your toy is partial porous.
ABS plastic has low porosity and the material are safe for clitoral use. These toys are hypoallergenic and phthalate free. These toys are rigid acrylonitrile butadiene styrene plastic, hard and hygienic (ABS) which is a great material for vibrating bullets and vibes. Plastic transfers vibrations extremely well and allows firm, strong stimulation. ABS are compatible with water-based and silicone lubes. The feel is hard, strong and smooth it has an odorless smell and doesn’t have a taste. ABS material doesn’t contain phthalates or latex.
REAL SKIN/ SILICONE COMPOSITES have soft material and highly porous which can’t be sterilized and are very toxic. These consist of Realskin, Cyberskin and Pureskin which are penis sleeves, dildos and vaginas. The silicone composites are cheaper than 100% silicone but both are squishy and soft and companies will try to pass it off as 100% silicone and that’s why you must check before you buy. The other name for Silicone Composites is Sil-a-gel. This material is compatible with water-based lube, it has a firm, life-like and tactile feel, it has a strong rubbery smell and has a rubbery taste. Make sure you check for latex and phthalates contents.
GLASS is so beautifully designed to me and the appearance, versatility and all the benefits of silicone. Glass is very firm, smooth and its not soft at all. The term that glass goes by is borosilicate or pyrex. You can boil or bleach them as long as they don’t contain electrical parts. Glass is great for cooling and heated play for the g=spot and the prostate. As far as lubes are concerned you can use any of them water-based and silicone. Glass feel so smooth, rigid and they have an odorless smell, and no taste. But the best part about glass is that it wont break, shatter and its not sharp.
PVC/RUBBER is another phthalates that is soft, easily molded because of the chemicals being used to make it softened. This is used because it is cheap to produce rubber is porous as well as it is a sexual health risk. If you have these types of toys you may use the water-based and silicone-based lubes to clean the toys. PVC/Rubber may have a rubbery smell, contain phthalates, porous, shouldn’t be shared with anyone because they cant be completely clean, and please don’t store near other soft toy material they may contaminate each other.
STEEL/METAL it is not flexible material but can be shaped. Metal/steel is non-porous safe on skin, waterproof, heavy and the rigidness feel is much for some people. It is easy to clean, can be heated and cooled for or during play and the right toy for your g-spot or prostate. If they don’t have a vibrator and waterproof can be boiled and bleached to be cleaned. They can be used with either water-based and silicone-based lubes. The steel/ metal feel is smooth, cold and rigid very firm, there is no smell and there is no taste. Make sure your toy contains only steel and metal no extra like nickel which could case a bad reaction.
TREATED SEX TOYS: Wood, Stone and Ceramic can be safe if treated glazed correctly with a non-toxic sealant. This makes them non-porous but by nature they are naturally porous but when treated and glazed also vitrify can be body safe. The non-toxicity is all on the company or the manufacture. Stones should be polished to a glossy shine; Ceramic have a little different because they may be solid or hollow and they can fracture or shatter if you drop them or hit them on something. So, I would advise be careful when using them. Now unlike metal, steel or silicone do not boil these or bleach them, just take a bowl of cold or warm water and then the hollow ones you can place warm or cold water in them and enjoy play internally.
TPE/TPR maybe safe but some are porous. This type of material may harbor HPV. After doing some research most TPE is medical grade and non-porous but we don’t know what else is in them or if a company is just saying it to make a buck. So be careful of these and do your homework. TPE/TPR smell like slighty rubbery and should not be sharing. Oh yeah and it might be kind of slimy.
